I've been playing D&D 4th edition for years, being blessed with a great DM who's been preparing everything for us so we were very lucky. As I didn't bother preparing much more than my char sheet, I didn't know there was so much more than our - most of the time - combat based game.
As our DM stops playing and the party is falling apart, I would like to start over. I bought the 5th edition Starter Set and an Essentials Kit and I even prepared all the miniatures in paper & coins for 'Lost mines of Phandelver'. (+/- 100 I think. I'm really excited) Been reading the manual, I found a new party squad and would like to start over. But... I'm a bit blocked I think. I guess I'm well prepared but my question is: How do I start to play with this new group of people who have never played D&D Before?
Do I give them their char sheet a couple of weeks before, do they need the rulebook before we start playing, et cetera et cetera?
I would also like to know where I can get some miniatures for reasonable prices (now I found a nice Reddit post, printed them out and bought some plastic things to put them in, but I would like to do my utmost best)
While this probably is the wrong place to put this, here's what I recommend. Take 1-2 sessions (Depending on how long your sessions usually go) to teach them the basics. Modifiers, stats, coins, etc. Make sure they have access to the PHB at least. Ask them outside of these sessions what sort of character they want to play, and help guide their character creation. Have a session 0, explain how combat and everything works, then go into the campaign proper. The good thing about Lost Mines is that it is designed to help New DMs and new players learn the game, so you should be fine.

Hi,
thanks you very much for your response. I've noticed that I indeed put this in the wrong section. My apologies :)
Have fun playing D&D!
Greetings
