Looking to make a character that was raised from the dead by the court wizard to be a jester for the king, but the wizard also uses him as an assassin to take the throne, i was thinking college of swords for the bard part and the wizard would also act as a patron giving my character magic to help with the assassination, any advice on what type of patron the wizard could be? Because my current idea is to go mage of witherbloom with the wizard acting as a teacher along with pact of the tome to give my character more cantrips, I'd like to fill a sort of support role while being able to handle a fight without being a glass cannon
The two that spring to mind would be Archfey for more charm/deception/illusion for infiltration, or Hexblade for more melee tricks.
However you're already getting a lot of what those have to offer thanks to being a College of Swords Bard, as the Bard spell list is pretty "fey" to begin with, and College of Swords are pretty nasty up close on their own, i.e- you already have all the tools you ought to need to build a magical assassin. If you want a Wizard to be the true source of your Bardic magic then that's up to you and your DM, that's just backstory.
Not saying that multiclassing as Warlock can't work, it absolutely can; Hexblade can pair well with College of Swords for some added melee nastiness, but the main problem is that you probably don't want to multiclass until after you get your Extra Attack (6th level) at the earliest, and every level in Warlock will slow your progression in Bard.
If you were to just go Bard only (or multiclass later) you could still pick up extra cantrips using the Magic Initiate feat?

Thank you for the advice, I've never played a bard so I wasn't sure how they progressed, from your explanation it sounds like multiclassing isn't really something I need to do to get where I want to be with this character, i can reflavor the backstory for it appropriately and think about multiclassing later on as you suggest, thank you again this really helped me get a better idea of what a college of swords bard can do on its own
