We just started a run with two players, 3 characters and a few jump in and out player/characters. The 3 mains characters are a sorcerer (npc), paladin, and bard(me). I want to build to best help the group. My stats are as followed with racials modifers: str 8, dex 13, con 12, Chr 18, Wis 11, int 10.
I'm just leveled from 1 to 3. Any advice on spells or college? I'm leaning towards lore college but the valor extra attack sounds nice.
With that group, I would probably go College of Valor. The Paladin is going to be your main tank/bruiser guy, but if the other character is a glass cannon style caster, you probably want to be something that can serve several roles. Valor gives you more combat focus, medium armor allows for some solid choices, and you can leave the blasting to your Sorcerer while you keep baddies off his back. Plus I feel they have the better Bardic Inspiration secondary use. You can up your Dex to 14 with a variety of Feats, or roll Dex +1 and
That said, if you wanted to sit back and be full blown healer/support for the other 2 characters, Lore is probably the single best support class in the game. Buffs, Debuffs, weird healing magic options, and some OK offensive spells. It depends on how you personally play.
I think the mending cantrip and vicious mockery work well. Mending( you can fix broken weapons to sale, break in and repair the damage, perform magic tricks by tearing something apart and putting it back together, etc. Spells I like thunderwave for if you get surrounded by say low constitution baddies like goblins and Dissonant whispers to take out larger but low wisdom creaturee..but still take half damage on saves. Healing word..it's a bonus action and they just have to hear you..and I always liked feather fall as a utility spell..ever up high and need to make a quick escape with your friends..that's the way to go.
