I joined my school's D&D club because I really like fantasy, and I thought it would be fun. I picked a bard because it seemed cool, and chose a half-orc as a species. I've been a bit anxious about it, considering I haven't played before. I honestly just wanted to check if it made sense and would be easy for a newbie like me to work with. What do you think?
Sure - why not? From the Half-Orc description in the PHB: "Beyond the rage of Gruumsh, half-orcs feel emotion powerfully. Rage doesn’t just quicken their pulse, it makes their bodies burn. An insult stings like acid, and sadness saps their strength. But they laugh loudly and heartily, and simple pleasures — feasting, drinking, wrestling, drumming, and wild dancing — fill their hearts with joy. They tend to be short-tempered and sometimes sullen, more inclined to action than contemplation and to fighting than arguing. And when their hearts swell with love, they leap to perform acts of great kindness and compassion." Anyone who feels emotion powerfully would also be moved by music or poetry. A high charisma half-orc bard could be very interesting - and bards are very versatile. Many bards are supporters, inspiring their team and helping to protect and heal them, but they can also be fighters and in the thick of the battle - it all depends on what you want to do. The main thing to remember with any character is to have fun with it!

If you are looking for pure bard efficiency, half-elf is better for bard. The charisma bonus is really helpful on a charisma-based class like the bard. If you’re looking for pure half-orc efficiency, a martial such as barbarian is better, to take advantage of the boosted durability and melee damage
But you seem to be picking half-orc bard for something else, and half-orc bard is decently effective. You can stay closer to the front than other bards because you’re more durable. If you want to play with the valor subclass, half orc is good at that because of the occasional extra die of melee damage and increased ability to survive the front lines. Just don’t neglect your bardic inspiration and spellcasting.
