Hi everybody! I play a Bard and my friend plays a Paladin, both 3rd level. I'm a Tabaxi college of Eloquence, and he's a Dragonborn Oath of Vengeance. I'm wondering if there are any cool abilities or spells we can use to attempt to combo our characters together? I'm getting kind of tired of just debuffing enemies, I'm looking for some niche or powerful interactions. Thanks in advance!
Well, I don't see anything wrong with a Lore Bard using Cutting Words to debuff the boss that your paladin is facing, or using Bane and Bless together so you can debuff the enemy while he buffs the party. Of course, you giving the Paladin inspiration before he unleashes his main attack planning to add Divine Smite is a pretty good synergy. I don't know much else to say at this point without more discussion. Good luck.

Make sure the Paladin's turn is after yours and before the enemy's turn. Use Unsettling Words to lower a (humanoid) boss's saving throw, someone you think may not have a high Wisdom. Cast Hold Person. The Paladin get to attack the target with advantage, and auto-crit if he hits. If he does hit, then he uses Divine Smite with his highest available spell slot. ALL that dice is doubled.
The reason the initiative order matters is because if you cast it on the enemy, and then the enemy gets its turn before the Paladin, it gets another saving throw.
Edit: The Paladin can also hold his action until the end of your turn.
You could potentially use the Silent Image spell to create an illusion on the Paladin, giving them the bonuses of invisibility. Like "hey look at me, no that boulder didn't just smite you, look over here!"
