After being DM for a long time, I'm starting to be a player at D&D5. We are going to play in the Greyhawk, in the Caliphate of Ekbir. The main race is by far humans. All the other races are exotic.
We are 6 players in the group : A Ranger, A Wizard, A Cleric, A Fighter and A Paladin. Plus me as Bard.
Looking at the group composition, I don't need to have a martial archetype. There is enough in the group already. To distinguish myself from the others, I believe I should play more a roguish style and support.
So it leaves 3 archetypes : Lore, Glamour and Whispers.
Lore : More skills and more spells. It's always useful
Glamour : I'm not sure. I have some difficulties to imagine what I can do with that archetype.
Whispers : I like the concept but I don't know if it's good or not.
Which one would fit better in such group?
And any support for creating a good build? (avoiding multiclassing) Which feat or spells should I take? How should I play a bard in a fight?
Try Lore and take the Vicious Mockery cantrip and Bane spell, once you get to 3rd level and above the fun begins.
Cast bane on your enemies and they suffer a d4 penalty to attacks and saves.
On following rounds cast vicious mockery on the target that is the focus of 2 or more party members, this will give that creature disadvantage to it's first attack.
When the creature tries to hit something, take your reaction to use cutting words on it and give it a penalty of d6 to hit.
To recap: it will roll with disadvantage, then apply a d4 and a d6 penalty to the lower of those 2 rolls... good luck hitting anything mr. bad guy while the party rips you apart, piece by piece.
