I'm starting a short campaign soon and made six premade characters for it. I have added the characters as unassigned characters to the campaign and that worked great, but now I want to send out the invite link. I made a D&D Beyond test account for myself real quick to see what the player experience is like and it looks like you cannot join without claiming a character - and you can't view the character sheets before you claim them!
A work around I found for this is that you can claim and unassigned yourself from each character, which lets you view them all, but you do get a pop-up box which says that you won't be able to view the sheet if someone else claims them. So it sounds like this work around only works until one of my other players tries to use it and it screws over the last person using the work around.
I also tried exporting the character sheets to pdf but a lot of text gets cut off.
Am I missing something? Is there a usable work around to accomplish what I am hoping to achieve?
The only thing I can think of would be to make a fake campaign and add copies of the premade characters to the campaign - then repeat that process for every player! This way each player would have their own campaign to view all the characters in and after figuring out which one they wanted they could then claim that option in the real campaign. This sounds like a lot of work for something that should be a simple feature.
Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this. I tried asking in general and didn't get much help. Figured I'd get more of a reply here.
This is clunky, but you could make a copy of each of the pregens, then get the shareable links for each of them and include those links in your message to your players. You'd probably want to have a non-claimable copy of each pregen anyway, for reference on how they started out before players got them.
