Darts seem to be changing to 1d6 on the action tab of character sheet once they're loaded into inventory. They properly show 1d4 on the item when searched through manage inventory.
If you're a monk, they count as monk weapons, so the damage goes up.
For a weapon to be a Monk weapon it must be a simple melee weapon that isn't Two-Handed or Heavy. Dart is a ranged weapon and therefore not a Monk weapon. It can become a Monk weapon through features like Designated Weapon or Kensei Weapons - but it is not one natively.
Aha! These are good observations and I believe the Kensei issue was what was causing it. I thought it was a bug but am pleasantly surprised to find it's a slight damage buff due to class features :-) Disregard please!

Darts actually don't count as monk weapons, unless a Monk has made it their Designated Weapon using the optional class feature from Tasha's.
