Using the above character as an example, a penalty to melee hit (9STR, so a -1) should not be carried over to spell hit. Spell Hit for this character should be +8 (4 prof + 4 CHA), not a +7 (3 prof + 4 CHA) as in the Attack Action bar.
You have +3 prof according to the proficiency bonus field. I see that you're using XP - check that in addition to giving yourself the relevant levels, you've given yourself the relevant XP. The sheet's not recognizing in all places that you're level 9 and have +4 prof.
I have a +4 prof from the character level, with a -1 penalty because of the strength score thus it shows Prof 3.....this should not carry over to a spell hit since strength penalties mean nothing in relation to that.
Those are the default numbers the software spit out.....did not do the same with other characters I've created. I'd say your software glitched something on character creation. But you're right, the XP wasn't matching up to the character level for some reason.
Thanks

Thus, the spell hit should read +8, not +7.
You haven't correctly levelled your character; you've not got enough XP to be level 9, but you've given yourself an extra level in sorcerer.
Your proficiency bonus reflects your character level, which is determined by your XP. You need to do one of the following:
