These are basic things, I know, and I've been a member for years....but it's been so long since I've created a new campaign and added players that I have some specific questions. Looking for some patient and helpful responses!
The situation:
I will be DMing a game for a group of folks who are all new to D&D Beyond. I have a Master Tier subscription, and have almost all of the sourcebooks purchased for sharing. I have plenty of space left (I have created four of five allowed campaigns).
The first step is getting the players to sign up for D&D Beyond. That's in process.
I would like for them to be able to access the shared content when creating characters, rather than have them limited to the free basic rules. This means sending them the link to the campaign. I know how to do this.
My dilemma: I would like the new players to be able to see the descriptions of the races and classes in the PHB, XGTE, and TCOE before they create a character.
My question: can players join a campaign and see the shared content before/without creating a character, or is creating the character in the new campaign the only way to for them to see and access the content I share through my Master Tier subscription?
(These players are geographically distant from me, and do not have the hard copies of the books.)
They need to have a character in the campaign, yes, but they don't have to complete building the character. So they take their brand new account, follow the campaign link, and select the option to create a new character in the campaign. The first tab they come to when creating a character is all preferences for setting up the sheet. The only thing that's really for the character on that first tab is the character name, and that can be changed. So they name it 'Pat's placeholder character,' and they should be able to go off and read the material and then come back and really create the character.
