Why isn't it showing up? I managed to get his homebrewed Cure Wounds to show up, but Flame Glaive isn't...
Also, is there a way to - since I am the DM and etc - overwrite any restrictions the system may have when it comes to adding things to character sheets? I mean, I get that it's a spell for Druids, but I should be able to basically add it without all these extra steps just by checking "Yes, I am the admin" or something like that...
I'm seeing the homebrewed spell available for your character to learn. This may simply have been a case of having to wait due to caching; when making and editing homebrew, it can take 15–20 minutes for changes to finally appear on a character sheet. Sometimes if that amount of time has elapsed and you're still not seeing the changes, you can try re-fetching the character data by toggling the inspiration on and off and refreshing.
AHhh yeah yeah, now the spell is showing up on the Spell list, but the problem is another...
The spell is being displayed, but I can't add it to the character. I removed a spell and then I could add it - so it seems the issue now is that it's superseding the amount of spells they can have... hmmmm...
This is because sorcerers know a fixed number of spells at any given level, as shown in the Spells Known column of the Sorcerer Table. If you want to add this as a bonus spell that uses spell slots but doesn't count as a known spell, there are a few ways do this using the homebrew tools.
The easier of the two methods is to create a feat that grants the spell, ensuring that you set Ability Score to CHA, Consumes Spell Slot to Yes, and Counts as Known Spell to No:
The drawback of this method is that when any items that increase your sorcerer spell save DC (such as the bloodwell vial) are fixed to only work for sorcerer spells, the spell save DC of a spell granted this way will not automatically increase — in those cases, you could customize the spell save DC of that specific spell.
The more complicated method, but one that will always scale the spell save DC properly, is to create a homebrew copy of your sorcerer subclass and add a feature that grants this spell, remembering to set Consumes Spell Slot to Yes and Counts as Known Spell to No, as above.
Hi all!
I have a Draconic Sorcerer who has gained the spell Flame Blade. They have made it into a Glaive, so I made a new spell using the Homebrew spells feature: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/1149249-flame-glaive
As for details:
This it the character in question: https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/hasaiah/characters/58884899
