How can I automatically add dice to a specific roll?

I just picked up the spell Gift of Alacrity and am trying to automatically add the d8 to my initiative rolls. I tried homebrewing a feat and an item that give bonus-initiative 1d8 but it isn't rolling the extra d8.

Multiple dice of different types isn't a feature at the moment.
