This is a possible bug, as it's also possible I've misunderstood the favoured enemy rule for a Ranger, however when I select Beasts as a favoured enemy, there is no obvious language choice to correspond to that (since beasts don't have any known languages). This I believe means I don't get a free language, like I would if I for example chose Fiends as a favoured enemy (which should give me Abyssal I think).
However, the UI for favoured enemy marks the language selection as incomplete because I haven't chosen one.
I wasn't sure whether to put this under Feedback, as it may be more appropriate as a suggestion to overhaul the UI for favoured enemy because, unless I have misunderstood, the language(s) learned should be determined by the favoured enemy/enemies chosen, so there really shouldn't be a drop down for language at all, and indeed, when choosing two humanoid races as favoured enemies there is only a single language drop-down but the rule reads to me like I should get two languages when doing this.
I would recommend that the language drop-down be removed entirely, and each race that can be selected as a favoured enemy (either category or two humanoid races) be given an associated language (or none) that is automatically added, as this seems like it should match how favoured enemy works. Unless of course I've totally misunderstood it, but if that's the case then I've been playing it wrong for a while now 😃
