When you add a spell (or spells) to a magic item, feat, or subclass (using the "Spells" button in the creation process, or the "Add Specific Spells" box), deleted or revisions of homebrew spells that are not currently added to your homebrew collection show up in the list. This can be infuriating if you've made several revisions of a spell because they all have the same name and you have no idea which one is the current one in the collection.
Ex: I created a spell called Control Shadows, which has a few revisions. Only the last version is currently added to My Collection. When you try to add the spell to a magic item, the list shows (for example)
Conjure Animals Conjure Fey Control Shadows Control Shadows Control Shadows Control Shadows Control Shadows COPY_OF_BANISHING_SMITE [deleted spell, not in Collection] COPY_OF_BARKSIN [deleted spell, not in Collection]
... even though only one of them may be in the Collection (the current version).
Thanks for looking into this. If for some reason you really need to show revised spells not in Collection, it would be nice to see the version note beside each spell name.
You should be able to see your version number in spell description (assuming you added one), but it would be better if the bug didnt happen at all.
I do see the version number in the spell description, but it is of no use when adding it as I described above since the version isn't visible there so you have no idea which one is actually the "right" version. It's not even necessary the first or last spell in the list.
Homebrew spell versions or deleted spells (e.g. COPY_OF_BARKSIN) not in Collection also show up when adding a spell to subclass feature. Edited my initial post to reflect that.

A year later, this is still an annoying issue.

I still see it too.
how do I add my homebrew spells to my character?
Not relevant to this 3 year old thread, but I'll answer anyway:
The same way you add non-homebrew spells. Make sure the spell is in your collection and homebrew is turned on for the character.
