I think it's overpowered in its current state and I'd like to nerf it a bit to use in my own campaign. I've added it to my collection but I am unable to use it as a template for my creations and I do not have the ability to edit it. Is this possible? Seems very inefficient if I have to make the race again despite it being 90% of the way done above.
You will have to remake the homebrew and edit it from scratch. You cannot use another's homebrew as a template; I assume that is due to copyright and legal concerns.
I've found this homebrew race: https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/309522-illithid-mind-flayer

Is there something I'm missing?

Frustrating but is what it is. They track revisions so I don’t see why they wouldn’t allow me to make a “revision” of the homebrew.
Thanks for the answer!
