If you have a -2 STR modifier and a +2 Proficiency bonus, you get a net bonus for the attack roll of 0.
The damage is 1+STR modifier, so it should be mathematically -1, but in 5e negative values for the damage do not exist, so the sheet shows the minimum possible: 0.
If the 'net bonus' is 0, then how come when the damage is calculated with 1+, it does not become 1....?
1 + 0 is 1, and that's where I'm confused.
I apologize in advance if your reply is an obvious answer to my question; I've tried looking for answers before making this thread, but I couldn't find anything on the topic, and I don't understand enough yet to figure it out.
From what I think I understand from your response... You are saying that even though "-2 + 2 + 1" would normally equate to " +1" ... In D&D It would not come out to +1 damage like normal; because anytime a negative modifier is used in the damage, the answer will always be 0...? (Kind of like how everything multiplied by zero, will always be zero)
So... even though the description of "Unarmed-Strike" on the character-sheet says "You are proficient with your unarmed strikes." My proficiency bonus is not used for it anywhere, at all...?
On my character sheet, my character has a "-2" modifier in Strength. Unarmed Strike says it does "1" plus whatever your modifier is.
-2 + 1 is -1...
It says on the attack that I have proficiency in my Unarmed-Strike. My proficiency bonus is + 2.... -1 + 2 is 1, isn't it...?
On the "Attacks" Section, it says "0 hit, 0 damage" though... Why?

Is this correct...?
The 1 is referred to the damage, not the attack bonus. The attack bonus is simply Str modifier plus proficiency bonus.
The damage is 1 plus str modifier, without the proficiency bonus involved, and can't be lower than 0.
So... even though the description of "Unarmed-Strike" on the character-sheet says "You are proficient with your unarmed strikes." My proficiency bonus is not used for it anywhere, at all...?
You use your proficiency bonus for the attack roll, as in any other weapon attack you are proficient with.
The proficiency bonus is used in the attack roll only, not the damage.
OH! I get it now, sorry for the confusion. I keep forgetting that "Attack Roll" is the 'trying to hit things' part, and not the damage.
