I was messing around with the wild shape feature and I used a panther to test it. Everything looked good except it is giving the Stealth as a +5 instead of the panther's +6. My druid is level 5 with a +2 Dex. I CR 1/4 creature has a prof bonus of +2 so I am guessing that why it is using mine instead but it seems that panthers maybe have expertise in stealth? Also my character is not proficient in stealth at all so shouldn't it use the panther's stealth regardless?
I additionally did some testing with a crocodile and its doing a +3 stealth. This means its taking +0 from the crocodile dex and +3 from the druid prof bonus. This definitely seems off.
I just noticed the same discrepancy. My druid has no proficiency in stealth and her dex bonus is +2. I noticed at level 5, so the proficiency bonus is +3.
My druid's stealth is +2, Cat is proficient and has +4. I'd expect the Cat Wildshape to have +4, but it shows +5. A Panther has stealth +6, Wildshape shows +5, when it should be +6.
I tried reducing the level to 4 which adjusted both the Cat and the Panther Wildshape's stealth bonus to +4 (i.e. the proficiency bonus of character going down by 1 lowered both bonuses). This seems to support erogroth's theory of it taking the character's proficiency bonus rather than the stat from the beast's block.
For monsters with “expertise” the automatic wild shape calculations seem to fail quite often. There doesn’t seem to be an easy fix for this one either.
