I'm currently working on a homebrew subclass for Rogue, and when I go to set up Subclass Features using the 'Replacement' feature type they aren't appearing on the actual subclass. They still appear in the edit list, but the readable subclass doesn't include them. This is mechanically important, as the subclass is meant to have an ability that starts as a Long Rest recharge at lv3 and then becomes a Short Rest recharge later on. Please advise, thanks!
Replacement is used for optional class features that can be chosen instead of a base class feature, such as the cleric's Blessed Strikes feature from TCOE.
If you want to change an Action's Reset Type, you can use a Level Override. Just open the Action, scroll to the bottom to the Level Overrides section, and add a new override with the expected level and the new Reset Type.
Not sure that's relevant to the question, so let me clarify. I've fully set up the text of all the subclass features, however none of the text from the 'Replacement' features is showing in the subclass write-up (only the 'Granted' features).
Yeah, I understand that, but I think you’ve misunderstood what a Replacement feature is. It’s an optional class feature like the ones found in TCOE. Because it’s optional, a character must opt in to use it. If you want a feature to be given to them automatically, the feature needs to be Granted.
Is there a reason none of the text displays, though? An optional feature that no one can read isn't very helpful -- you can't choose an option you don't know exists, after all. Do I essentially need to duplicate the 'Replacement' as a 'Granted' so that players reading over the subclass will know that it exists, or is there a way to get 'Replacement' features to display normally on the subclass?
I don’t believe so, but again, if you just want to change the Activation Type at a higher level (from Long Rest to Short Rest), I think Level Overrides will be the more effective solution here.
