I tried to search for this but could not find anything.
When I look up prices for books on the app vs on the website, I get different prices, the app being much more expensive.
For instance, the DMG is $29.99 on the website, but $39.99 on the iPhone app.
Is it because the app converts it to Canadian prices as I'm located in Canada, or is there a markup on the app because Apple takes a cut of in-app purchases?
I'm in the UK myself - the international prices are converted by Apple for iOS and Google for Android - they make increases to offset tax liability as far as I am aware.
I live in the USA and can tell you the listed prices are usually the same if not cheaper on the app. HOWEVER, there has never seemed to be any way to use coupons or discounts on the app as I regularly do on the online marketplace. Currently, A Grung Above is the only thing available I haven’t purchased. It’s a dollar cheaper on the app and once you factor my discount, we are only looking at a quarter difference in price. Odd.
My main question here would be: does it matter where I buy the content from and which version delivers the most back to Beyond? I have always just purchased through the online marketplace, but I finally got curious about what the differences really are in the grand scheme of things.
It’s now 2025 and the problem still exists, digital copies cost me 10 USD more on the app . And I am unable to buy on the website as I am not living in the USA. This should not matter for digital copies right ?
Again, the app (or more accurately, your phone’s app store) is converting the cost in USD to your local currency. The price is the same in USD regardless of whether you purchase in the app or on the site.
You do not need to live in the US to purchase digital copies on the site either. (Though again, the price on the site is in USD, not your local currency. Your bank will presumably charge the amount in your local currency, and potentially with an added exchange fee.)
Ah Correct, Th confusion is that the app shows $ and it's in local currency ......nl Singapore dollar. it's confusing , it only shows S$ when purchasing....how do I change this to my current country where I live now?
