Thank you for that suggestion. It works on FireFox, but crashes on Chrome. Now to figure out why some characters (all newer) work on Chrome and the older ones don't.
My guess would be that there’s a browser extension or some other setting that’s interfering here. You could try it in Chrome’s Incognito Mode to confirm. If it works there, I’d then try disabling all browser extensions, then re-enable them one by one to find the culprit.
Keep getting an error trying to open older character sheets
A beholder has appeared and ruined everything (there is a 500 behind the beholder)

Actually after opening it in a different browser I was able to open it in Chrome. Thank you for your help! Marking as solved.
