Which monster tag are you searching for and does it apply to the 5e version?
If you're looking for a monster type, select the Monster Type from the top row. If you're looking for anything else, tags are patchy for pretty much everything. As a simple example, the Aarakocra (5e) shows up when you select the Humanoid monster type, and Aarakocra Aeromancer (5.5e), but neither have a Humanoid or Elemental tag.
It's not a 5.5e problem. It's an everything problem.
It really seems like the only source that uses monster tags is Mordenkainen's.
This is a change to make DDB more accurately reflect the rules (remember that DDB wasn't always owned by WotC and there's some stuff lingering from those days that was made up wholecloth)
If I go Monsters and filter by Source Category 5.5E Core Rules then apply ANY Monster Tag, no results show up.
If I apply any Monster Tag without selecting a Source, no 5.5e Monsters appear in the results.
Tags simply do not work for 5.5e Core Monsters.

That's because tags were a D&D Beyond-ism. You want to use Monster Sub-type for 5.5e monsters.
For example, the chromatic subtype returns all chromatic dragons.
