As a forever-DM, I enjoy owning as much content as I can; even if I don't intend to use it in a game, it's fun and helpful to read to get ideas.
I have:
a Master-tier Subscription
Created a campaign as the DM
Enabled Content Sharing on that campaign
Gone though Content Management and blocked everything but the core source books
When a new player joins the campaign, their character sheet can see and use spells, features, options, etc. from books that I own that are blocked in Content Management!
Turning off individual sources in the Content Management screen prevents players from reading those sources, but doesn't restrict the character options from them. This is stated right at the top of the screen.
The only means for hiding character options are the “Sources” and “Partnered Content” toggles in their character settings.
Which still isn't good enough because 90% of the official content is lumped into "Expanded Rules".
Can we get official book selectors under that? Tashas/Xanathars yes, Strixhaven no?
Oversharing is managed fine. Strixhaven is fine. Even Silvery Barbs is a niche hatred by specific DMs with specific(but still valid) playstyles.
Just communicate with players that Silvery Barbs is banned at your table if that's the one reason you have a grudge against & refuse to purchase Strixhaven. I don't think you have a grudge against Borrowed Knowledge, Kinetic Jaunt, Vortex Warp & Wither & Bloom....
For the record, do you ban Healing Word, Tasha's Mind Whip & Fireball, the other "community power scale" spells?
TBH, Silvery Barbs alone is NOT worth rewriting site coding for.
Not unless a LOT more was properly funded by Hasbro, change-wise.
The sharing system is balanced to the majority who don't engage with the online communities.
