When i cast mage armor right now on my wizard in DND Beyond, it doesn't change his AC. Confirmed i am not wearing any equipment or armor that overrides AC.
The system doesn't handle temporary effects like that.
A lot of people use homebrew to make an item that they can equip and unequal for mage armor. (IIRC, the faqs in the homebrew forum tell you how to do this.)
Others use the override field you get when you click on your AC on the sheet.
