This spell grows an inert duplicate of a living, Medium creature as a safeguard against death.
However, the Player's Handbook says:
This spell grows an inert duplicate of a living creature as a safeguard against death.
As far as I can see there's no errata regarding this, so it looks like an error. It says this in both the standalone spell page and the complete spell list from the PHB.
Also, Beyond attributes Clone to the basic rules, but Clone isn't in the basic rules and is only in the Player's Handbook.

just following up on this - we have confirmed that the wording on the Clone spell on D&D Beyond is correct, as per the most recent printing of the Player's Handbook from Wizards of the Coast.
It looks like this change was missed from the PDF errata that was issued in November 2018, however most recent prints of the Player's Handbook have this wording.
This is a change since 6th print Player's Handbook - prior to that the word "medium" wasn't there.
Wow, thank you for the citations. I wasn't aware the basic rules on Beyond were different than the PDF.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules At the top of the page, it says "This section contains the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Rules and the rules in the SRD, released as part of the Open Gaming License." The Clone spell and its description can be found in the SRD pdf from Wizards of the Coast. http://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/SRD-OGL_V5.1.pdf However, it appears this document is from 2016, and doesn't have the changes from the errata. I'm not sure if there is a more recent SRD pdf on their website, but I can confirm the Clone spell is in the SRD PDF I linked, on page 125 for the spell description.

It's there. https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/spells#Clone Also under 8th Level Wizard Spells if you scroll up more.
This was already confirmed to not be an error.

I didn't know they could miss out on errata in the complete document either, so thanks for that as well.
