Hi, so I'm very new to using this site but I started using it to make homebrew monsters for a Ravnica campaign I'm about to start and I've enjoyed doing so. Now I wanted to get some feedback on the monsters I made to see if people considered them balanced/interesting, when I read up on how to do so, this line popped up:
You may not create content with the following: Non-SRD or Basic Rules content that is the intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast (such as mind flayers, beholders, or Mordenkainen).
I've been using the default available templates, then modifying them to fit the Ravnica setting better. Like turning a basic goblin into a goblin gang member equiped with some stolen Izzet league gear. Does this mean I cant make anything that directly references ravnica stuff like the guilds themselves or monsters added in the GGTR sourcebook? Or am I misunderstanding the rules here?
You can create and use whatever you want in your personal games, the rules are for what you are alowed to make public.
Some of those rules get a little fuzzy too. You should be fine as long as what you make is not a copy of an existing monster with a different name, is at least 50% different from non-SRD (basic rules) monsters, and avoids using trademarked names (izzet might not work, but league would be fine).
And worst case scenario you can always just paste your homebrew monster's stats into a thread post in plaintext.
thank you, none of em were too similar to existing stuff so Ive changed my wording to avoid names as you suggested and everything I made public since has gone through no problem
