New to D&D Beyond here and I am trying to finish a character build. Level 8 fighter, now with WARCASTER ability. When I go through the character build, I am not seeing any spells to choose from. Am I missing something or perhaps doing something wrong? I have unlocked all source books.
Public Mod Note
(Sedge):
Moved from Rules & Gameplay
Have you finished the character build and viewed the character sheet? You are able to manage spells from this portion (right side of character sheet under 'spells')
If issue persists, please link your character sheet here so that we might take a look.
First, I want to make sure that I understand you're talking about the War Caster feat.
Next, I want to ask - did you choose Eldritch Knight for your subclass? If not, did you mutliclass into another caster class?
If your class doesn't have spellcasting, then you're not going to see any spells in your character sheet.
No, I chose the Battle Master. I did not multiclass. It was my understanding that with the Feat ability of War Caster you would have access to a simple spell. I assumed the list of choices would've appeared once warcaster was selected.
Technically you shouldn't have been able to choose that feat. Warcaster has the prerequisite of the ability to cast at least one spell which you don't have.
I presume you turned off Feat Requirements in the home tab of the character editor?

Hmm, well under prereqs I have the sliders to the right side which is the default. I don't know if that is "on" or "off". Due to my ignorance of some of the rules and learning the workings of the site, it's becoming an exercise in frustration. I'm just totally lost now. I appreciate all the help though.
Hi Ravastrata. The War Caster feat does not provide any spells, it is a helpful feat to take for those that already cast spells.
You may be looking for the Magic Initiate feat, which gives you a little bit of spellcasting.
No, the character was a fighter. Level 8 I choose the War Caster feat. Reading everything again after walking away, I see what Emmote was saying. about the prereq to be able to cast spells. Soooo I am guessing that I should've chosen Mage Initiate first. Helps if I read lol
I just tried to add War Caster to my fighter and sure enough I could do it even though they don't have access to spells either and the feat restriction is on too (red is on - grey is off). So in your defence that does seem to be a bug where the prerequisite isn't being checked properly for War Caster.

Appreciate it. Sorry I am new to everything again. Haven't played since the 80s. I hope this link is correct
