so my constitution score is 12 which gives me a plus 1 and I'm level four though when I look at the hit points bit it says I have a +4 to it. my friends have been saying I shouldn't have that score but it's not like it breaks my character.
+1 times 4 equals +4.
The bonus to the hit die is applied at each level gained.
