I've been trying to use/create a feat for tracking the Hero Points from the alt rule in the DMG. However it appears that creating an action with the limited use functionality that varies by level causes an error if more than the first level's worth of points are used.
Hello! This is quite interesting. I tried the feat you created on my own test character, and it seemed to work as intended.
However, when I tried it on your testing character, I received the error you did. There may be some cached data or something else on your testing character that is causing an issue. Try creating a new character and applying the feat you created (not the other user's). If you still see the bug, please let us know.
I'm having a similar issue. I created a Spell Points feat for the variant spellcasting feature. It doesn't scale by character level. Instead, I created options so the player can select their spellcaster level in case they're multiclassed. The mechanics work fine, but when I click on the text contents of the feat snippet in the character sheet - an action that would usually bring out the sidebar with the full text of the feat - I almost always get the " A beholder has appeared and ruined everything" error message. Sometimes it takes a few clicks to get the error message, but it always eventually happens.

Here is another user's feat that has the bug: https://www.dndbeyond.com/feats/113873-hero-points
Here is my attempt at recreating the feat (using Lucky as a base) that has the same bug: https://www.dndbeyond.com/feats/163506-hero-points
Here is a test character that reproduces the bug when using the hero points: https://ddb.ac/characters/17549245/UOznEM
Here's the error code from one instance of the bug: d0ba7c4ea80b41f4b83c653babfc53f2
The Hero Points allows a number of points equal to 5 + half the character's level. This maps out to this in the limited use section of the action:
Level 1: 5 points
Level 2: 6 points
Level 4: 7 points
Level 6: 8 points
Level 8: 9 points
Level 10: 10 points
Level 12: 11 points
Level 14: 12 points
Level 16: 13 points
Level 18: 14 points
Level 20: 15 points
Characters at level 1 work as expected. Characters at level 2+ receive an error if they try to use more than 5 points.
The link to the character sheet you provided is a share link and mods can't check characters properly with that.
Just copy the URL of the character sheet.

I created a new character, set them to level 3 (6 points), added the feat on the character sheet and got the error when spending the 6th point.
I set them to level 14 (12 points) and got an error when setting the points to anything less than 7 (aka spending more than 5 points).
