Unarmed weapon damage ppears incorrect

I built a Goliath Paladin with 20 STR and saw that his unarmed attach was +7 (+5 str mod with +2 prof at lvl 1 =check) to hit with 5 bludgeoning damage. The formula for damage per the DMG is 1+STRmod a 20 STR character should be 1+5 = 6

I got the same error, made a wizard with a STR of 10, unarmed damage was 0.
