I'm likely doing something extremely wrong here but I was wanting to create a level 1 Fighter Human (variant) who's fighting style is Archery. I was then wanting to use the race feat gain to take on Crossbow Expert but it does not show up as a valid option. From my mediocre understanding I should be able to do this but it is not provided as part of the selecting feats for my level 1 character at the moment. Am I missing a prerequisite for it?
All the content I have is being shared with me by someone who is in my campaign. I was trying to build characters outside of the campaign, for kicks, but it seems like I might be limited to the content I have since the character I'm building is not associated to the campaign in which the shared content is enabled?

Have you bought the PHB? Or is it being shared to the character by being in a content sharing campaign with someone who has?

That's the way it is. Only characters in the campaign get the shared options.
