Hey all, looking for some advice on what I might be doing wrong here. I recently created a homebrew spell that allows the user to “hack” other magical abilities. To this effect, I made it available to Wizards, Arcana Domain Clerics, Arcane Trickster Rogues, and a homebrew Artificer subclass.
The spell is available to all of them, but there are weird issues with the subclasses I picked (Wizard gets the spell with no problems). Both my homebrewed subclass and the Arcana Cleric get the spell, but it’s automatically prepared and I didn’t want that. The Trickster Rogue gets access to the spell, but it’s listed twice in the 1st level spells available to them, despite there only being one instance of the spell in my creations menu.
The way that spells are added varies by subclass, which is hardcoded into D&D Beyond. When a Cleric or Artificer subclass is granted access to a spell, it follows the rules for their expanded spell features. That means that those spells are always prepared for them. In order to make it available as a spell they can choose to prepare, that spell would need to be on the main class' spell list. Alternatively, you could add the spell to the subclasses themselves as a feature, which could grant it as a spell known to them, but not always prepared.
As for the other... The Arcane Trickster gains access to the Wizard spell list. You will not need to add Arcane Trickster as an option for this spell, as you have already added it to the Wizard spell list, which is why you are seeing it there twice.

Any ideas why this is happening?
Hello Atimortis!

I hope that helps!
Thank you so much, that makes a lot of sense!
