I made a new subclass for warlock. Added it, made modifiers and such. It had a different spell casting level rate. I swapped my current warlock's otherworldly patron to my new home-brew one (The Frozen Maw). Everything worked fine. The problem occurred after I reverted to my original otherworldly patron(the great old one). After reverting I could still choose spells from higher levels than a regular warlock could (i was level 5 warlock but could cast level 5 spells) to add to my prepared list. Upon clicking on a spell that was too high of a level for a 5th level Great Old One warlock, the site was stuck permanently loading (presumably crashed). The ability to cast the higher than normal spells is now permanent on my character in the customize character section (when you click the anvil on your character sheet) and will crash the site.
Hi there, welcome to the D&D Beyond forum - could you please link both your character sheet and the homebrew class you mention temporarily swapping to? (Only moderators and developers will be able to access them.)
They are, thanks! Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately?) I can't see any option for your warlock to select 5th-level spells. The maximum I can see to choose from are 3rd-level spells. I can also edit the character details (clicking on the anvil) without an issue.
Are you still getting these issues when you try to this yourself? If so, it may be worth trying to clear your internet browser's cache or test it with another browser.
Well, i havent had a problem since i posted but that was after resetting my character class. Ill list my steps to make the bug:
1. Create a 5th level warlock and add spells. I had 3 homebrew spells and was also level 7 in Fighter Brute,(not part of the problem as far as i can tell but im being exact).
2. Create a warlock subclass that levels faster than regular warlock. (This is done with the spell slots == half your warlock level.)
3. Swap the current warlock subclass with the new homebrew one.
4. Level your new warlock class to level 13. Go to the character sheet, then return to character editor.
5. Delevel your warlock to 5. This is when i started crashing. The warlock still had access to level 5 spells instead of level 3 spells. Preparing a level 5 dpell would cause the site to load forever.
Hopefully you can replicate the bug. Im going to try it again too.
Ok i had partial success. If you do what i posted it kicks out most of your spells and all but onr cantrip. Depending on if you qre learning spells before, or after deleveling your character, and whether you are preparing spells in the character editor, or the character sheet, it will lock out your ability to choose spells. This can be fixed by swapping between the editor and the sheet once. It only seems to occur the very first time you delevel in a homebrew subclass. Subsequent page refreshes fix the problem so you have to be trying to change spells immediately after deleveling.
I however cannot replicate the level 5 crash. Im not entirely sure what caused it, but the actions were similar. Its hard to remember something you werent paying attention to.
I have some screenshots but it seems this text interface doesn't support pictures.
If you go to my character, swap her otherworldly patron to the Frozen Maw. Level her to 13 in warlock, then delevel her to 5, it should grey out all spells above cantrip even though she can learn 4 more spells.
An important detail i overlooked. Might change things. Im accessing your site from my phone? It isnt an app im just googling the site. The HTML code is the same but maybe its that specific of a bug....
Thank you for the useful tip! I am using a mobile phone and it does not display those, but I hopped on my PC and that is very useful. I could host an image (I've never done it before but I'm sure I could figure it out easily). But I have gone through my own instructions to replicate the issue and it does indeed create a bug (just not the original crashing one, still not sure how I managed that). So unless they request screenshots I'm just going to leave it at the instructions. Thank you though! I wasn't aware DnD Beyond could do that.

On my mobile if I go into landscape mode (aka flip the phone horizontally) those options do appear. Granted, is not comfortable using the "advanced" formatting editing option on mobile per-se, but they are most definitely there.
Another option is to switch to Desktop Mode, but that would then make navigation a tad harder.

If neither of us can than maybe i did something odd that was too minor go remember *shrugs*.
No worries, thanks for reporting it! I haven't been able to recreate it so far. In the mean time, I'll keep an eye out for more reports.
