Shouldn't the damage type of the Hobgoblin Captain Greatsword attack be slashing and not piercing? The same error is in the printed version and has never been updated in the errata and the only comment I have found online is this: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?465925-Hobgoblin-Captain-Damage. It strikes me as odd how someone could use a greatsword for stabbing.

You should provide this feedback to WotC. DDB can't do anything about a typo until it is errata'd.
