Is there a way to hide the info in read circles below?
I believe we all know the problem with player knowledge and character knowledge... they get confused...
The problem is if a player wants to hide there true race or class from the other players the other players will be presented with the true race and class with just clicking on the campaign.
I cant get the picture to work a link to the picture is here: Picture
Well in that case i can also let my players create there characters and send them to me in pdf.
But then i totaly miss the reason to use DnD Beyond.
In my opinion the reason why you have campaigns in here is for the GM to see player characters give XP in a easy way. But if my players will not use the system becourse the loose the most important thing in roleplay and that is there characters personality. Then I as a GM loose like 50% of what DnD Beyond can give me as a GM.
All new features like combat tracker, dice etc. will lose its meaning if i have 1 or 2 players in every group who will not use the system.
Sorry if I sound bitter but I have just convinced a player to use the system so I could have all characters in there and another party member just blow his character with offgame knowing he was a wizard.
And sorry to you Emmber I know you are trying to help, and I really like that but in this case it looks like there is no other way than not use the system as long as my players can not add there character without there fellow players can "spy" on them. :)
What the player knows is not the same as what the character knows.
If a character starts asking about the wizard being a wizard then you as the DM have the freedom to tell the player their character would not know these things and have no reason to suspect - their inquisitions never happened. And move on from there.
As DM you hold the authority to overrule anything falling into metagaming. So, ya know, do so. Problem solved.

You are right but people are lousy at not playing on offgame knowledge.
I do hit them hard when they use offgame knowledge not obtained by there character, but the damage is done.
Once the player has said aloud the info is known and next encounter the wizards is doing a bad job of melee fighting and the other players says offgame, "why are your character not using her magic to save us." And the roleplaying part is damaged.
I've been in the same boat for quite some time and fully agree with you Trolle. Having players in my group who are changelings claiming to be Dwarves, it kind of ruins the surprise reveal on their first death when the whole group already knew that character detail. I agree that avoiding metagaming can allow my character to feel surprised, but there's nothing quite as impressive as your "Rogue" suddenly counterspelling, or the gender reveal of a Charlatan suddenly whipping out their secret identity.
Character surprise is nice. Player surprise goes so much deeper.

I can agree regarding the Changeling and that's very easily resolved by just making a copy of the changeling race, rename it to, for example, Dwarf, then add this to the character sheet. Set sheet to Private. The sheet itself cannot be viewed by anyone except the player and DM, and all other players see on the campaign page is "Dwarf".

I'm not saying that there arn't work-arounds - you're right of course, that does solve the issue in that individual case - it's just that those work-arounds are necessary for multiple reasons. Filling your homebrew with multiple copies of races & classes [which will show up for everyone in your campaign, and thus be a hint of duplicity for anyone making their character after you] and filling up your limited DM slots for campaigns with proxy characters....well, it just seems like there should be a more streamlined, intentional method for doing this. Or at the least, a way to extend private mode and turn it off.
I agree it is a simple matter for a Textbox for info instead of the race and class info and you can write anything you want in there, then people who want to share there class and race can write it there.

Thanks in advanced...
The only way to hide that information is to obfuscate it.
Create a homebrew copy of the race you want to play and give it a different name. You can't do that with main classes though - only subclasses.

You could just tell the players to not metagame?

That you can't save with being a hard GM.
