I am trying to create a new Tiefling Subrace but 'Tiefling' is not listed as an option in drop the down to list create a new subrace on the Create Homebrew Race page: https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-race.

It is there for 'Create Race' and 'Create Variant'.

Anyone know why this is?

I have logged out and logged back in to dndbeyond.com. This has not resolved it.

Races that don't have subraces per official rules can't have subraces. What they can have is variants instead

Thanks for answering. So the Tiefling race has no Subraces? It mentions 10 Variants and 2 Base Races, this has me a little confused.

So if I want to make a version of the Feral Tiefling or the Variant Feral Tiefling where I change the Size to Small, Speed to 25 feet and Fire Resistance to Cold Resistance what do I create to make that happen? A new Race or a new Variant?

Subraces are not the save as variants.

Tieflings have no subraces, which is what you're seeing.

The different between a subrace and a variant is as follows:

• A base race with a subrace has some of its features described, the rest are described in it's subrace. For example, race A has feature 1, 2 and 3 out of 5. Abilities 4 and 5 would be found on the subraces
• A base race with variants have all of its features described. The subraces replace some of them. For example, race B has features 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Abilities 4 and 5 might be replaced by a variant

So if Size, Speed and Resistance is all in the main Race I should create a new Race based on one of the Base Races yes?
