you're supposed to add the trinket yourself since the trinket is just a stand-in for a small object relevant to your character's background.
This cannot be done since there is no way to find the Trinkets in the item selection. I should still be able to select 'Trinket' even if I have to pick it myself anyway.

The trinket option in Gladiator Starting Equipment can not be selected
