Hi, so I'm trying to build a character and it appears many options are missing. As an example, every feat except for grapple. Do I need to purchase the Player's Handbook to get those features? I'm given to understand that some races such as The Warforged may be unavailable (I do have Eberron toggled on) unless I purchase the source book, but I would hope to be able to make basic characters. I already own the Player's Handbook in reality and I would like to own the source books in the same way, though I suppose I'll settle for their digital counterparts if necessary. I thought buying a subscription would solve the problem, but it didn't. Thanks.

Yes, you need to purchase the Player's Handbook to get some of those options. The Systems Reference Document and the Basic Rules are the only sources that Wizards of the Coast has made available for free. Anything outside of the SRD and Basic Rules must be paid for, including the PHB.
Subscriptions do NOT unlock content. As a player, Hero Tier Subscription's primary benefit is to have an unlimited amount of character slots and access to public homebrew. Non-subscribers can only have up to six character slots. If you are a game master, Master Tier Subscription additionally gives you the ability to share sources in your campaign.
Having the physical copy of a medium does not entitle anyone to the digital version, unless it was made explicitly clear that it was part of the deal. If you have the physical PHB and you do not wish to buy the digital version, you can just re-enter all the character options as private homebrew. If you do not want to spend time doing that, you can just buy the individual options you need from a sourcebook instead of the entire sourcebook, such as certain subclasses or races.
1. Buy the options you want. IE if you just want a feat from the Players handbook just buy that feat (I believe most of the options are about $1.99 and most total packages run about $7.99 IE all feats all subclasses for a class) This will lower buying the Players handbook later and any bundles you buy so if you buy more than a few things just buy the book and get everything.
2. Buy the book (please note you have to buy the whole book with tools not just the text to get it with the tools.
3. Buy one of the bundles that includes all the books you want (please note any money spent also lower the bundles). The bundles once purchased also give you an automatically percentage off for new books covered by the bundle.
4. Homebrew the items yourself.
You can of course do a combination of all this that is most efficient for you. In my case when I started as a DM using DnDBeyond had a coupon and bought PHB, DMG and Monster Manual. Then when a couple of players wanted a few minor things from other books I bought them peacemeal and then as a coupon came along I bought that book. As time passed it was cheaper to buy the legendary bundle than it was to buy the individual books so I just bought that. Now as new items come out I just watch for a coupon and use my additional percentage to pick up the new stuff for a really good price. It admittedly took about 2 years to buy them all. DnDBeyond really makes buying what you need really flexible and if you feel competent to do that you can also just create it yourself with the homebrew tools but truthfully my time is almost always worth a little more than just buying the tool I need. Its also much easier to tweak stuff you bought to homebrew minor changes.

That's kind of what I had thought. Okay, I just need to figure out where to go from here. Thank you for the quick response. I truly appreciate it.
I think I'll just purchase as needed in regards to the PHB.
