I found a bug where my dwarven artificer has a DEX score of 9 giving a -1 modifier. If I put on any heavy armor or a shield the character is proficient with they still take the -1 penalty to AC as if it were being calculated like it was their base AC without armor.
Example: Half plate armor has AC 15 --> I equip the item and AC reads 14
Can you post a link to your character sheet so that a moderator such as myself can take a look?
I should note however that Half-Plate armor is Medium Armor - not Heavy. With Medium Armor, you still add your DEX bonus (even if it's a negative) so the example you listed above is the system working as intended.
you are completely correct, I misread the armor type. just went back and re-tested, everything is working as it should be. Thank you and I'll delete this post
