I'm after a bit of clarity on what can and can't be shared across multiple user accounts.
I have master account and I'm running a campaign with 5 other players, all of whom have a standard 'free' accounts I believe.
I have the PHB, DMG & XGE and I'm considering getting TCE... However, one of my players has informed me that if I do this then any new spells that might appear in Tasha's, won't be 'shareable' (for want of a better description) - One of the players is keen to use some new class features they've read about for their wizard hence why I was mulling over the purchase...but, if they can't have access to new spells, then that negates the purchase... So I'm deliberating.
I'm not sure if this is true or not, hence the need for clarity.
So, assuming I buy Tasha's Cauldron, and have 'Share Content' enabled for players on my campaign, will they, or won't they, have access to the new spells contained within it?
I hope that makes sense, I know from XGE that new classes and backgrounds are sharable, but it's spells I'm concerned about...
All spells printed in TCOE are shareable, new or not. There is no reason for TCOE to operate differently from XGTE.
Unless your player can provide a link or point to an article that specifically says purchasing TCOE is going to limit sharing of spells, I highly doubt it will. That just makes no sense.
No I totally agree, it made no sense to me neither, hence the question, but they seem convinced as they've bought it and have had trouble sharing spells within their campaign...
I've not had a proper opportunity to unpick what they're saying to me, but they have assured me that there is some issue.
That said, I don't know if they've got a master, hero or free account and therefore I don't know if they've turned on sharing or not ...
I guess knowing that might offer some insight into what they're saying.
But fundamentally, as a master subscriber I should be able to share content regardless of whether they're having an issue or not...
The spells are definitely shared. It's possible your player was having an issue with getting the optional spell list set up correctly, or parsing the rules for the optional spells (eg: because the optional spells are optional for individual wizards and aren't permanently added to the wizard spell list, they'd be unavailable to an Arcane Trickster rogue, so it would appear like they hadn't been shared). But I just added 16 levels of wizard to a test PC I have in a campaign where someone else is sharing TCoE and was able to add spells published only in TCoE.
