FWIW, a Battlesmith with a magic/infused weapon (which is pretty likely) can use it as an artificer focus, so they won't care about having a shield or second weapon --- they never need to switch "between using a weapon and casting spells," at least for artificer spells that can be cast in combat. (And that shield or off-hand weapon might also be infused...)

By gosh I think you're right.
"After you gain the Infuse Item feature at 2nd level, you can also use any item bearing one of your infusions as a spellcasting focus."
Seems like this could even include infused armor that you're wearing?
