Borrowed my friend's briefly. That Izzet guild background or the Boros Guild are the ones that look pretty tasty at a glance.
I will have to read how these work though. I'm sure they're not available in all games, but would be neat. Would be extra neat if I could still alter them a bit to still give some other stuff.
Current "go to" background has been Folk Hero, because I get a free Tinker Tool set with it I think it was. But I could probably stand not using several class abiltiies until i get gold if I could snag some useful abilities on my Alchemist.
Produce Flame or Sacred Flame both seem pretty useful. Guiding Bolt or Heroism is nice for an Alchemist. Chaos Bolt is very alchemical flavor wise. There is overlap on level 2 though. Too bad no magic missle (Just making a magic missle firearm at lv 11 sounds amusing)
Those backgrounds add some really tasty spells for that level 11 ability for sure.

Huh. If there was a "anything at all" allowed game. I wonder if Ravnica backgrounds + Ebberon sub race, to get a ton of spells.
The guild spells almost always overlap at some point, since any caster can pick them up if the DM allows you to. I think further tweaking those lists is kind of stretching it. In many cases you're grabbing spells that don't belong to your class to begin with 😂.

haha, probably the point for this thread. The artificer spell list is missing some good options for classes with so few slots. Several lack of thematic ones too.
but just think that would be the weirdest backstory with ravnica guild background and eberron subraces. in the right story would be a pretty amusing strange "spy" story
I didn't allow my party's artificer to take the spell list for free, it was a modified Aberrant Dragonmark feat that increased his INT of CON score by 1, gave him an extra artificer cantrip, and a sorcerer 1st level spell 1st per long rest, and then increased his spell list. He's a warforged so he doesn't get an expanded race list, and I thought this would be a nice small bonus.

Honestly, I'm sure there is a balance reason--or just an overlocked facet of early D&D, that things like racial/feat/item given spells/cantrips don't count as "your class spell" well first class taken anyway.
I let him have this variant Aberrant Dragonmark feat for backstory purposes, he wanted his warforged to be the last one to come out of a Creation Forge in Cyre before the Mourning, so I had to make a reason why he was last, I made it be that an artificer from House Cannith (named Gerrith d'Cannith) knew the Mourning was coming and were trying to transfer his consciousness into the warforged with the help of a half-elf Archivist, named Zondehr of Tira. Zondehr betrayed Gerrith at the last minute, stabbing him with a dagger, teleporting away before Gerrith was completely strapped in to the machine. The Mourning happened when the machine was about half-way through the process, which caused Gerrith's dragonmark of Making to be warped, turning into half-normal dragonmark, half-aberrant, and sealing Gerrith's mind into the backspace of Lucky's mind.
So, Lucky's dragonmark isn't completely aberrant, and not completely normal, so I designed a new feat for him to take.
