The Artificer is a class that offers a lot of great concepts. But my impression is, that most players see the Artificer as a "mechanical guy", with sparks, and gears and metal. And that's fine, this is part of greater Artificer background... but it's not all. There are also concepts like necro-alchimists, flesh sawing scientists... or my new concept:
The Floromancer
Race: Forest Gnome (of course other races are possible too)
Background: anything you want - I go with a homebrew "Feytouched" background
Class: Artificer (...) - Artillerist
From a game mechanical standpoint it's a normal Artillerist. But the science-magic is plant-based: exploding pine cones, seeds that let plants grow rapidly (spell "Web"?), roots... and of course: flowers. The artillerist turret is a tiny or small flower that shots needles (Force Ballista), spits fire (Flamethrower) or exhales a cloud of spores that strengthens the Floromancers allies (Protector).
From a roleplaying perspective it burrows much from a druid, but with a crazy exploding touch.
What do you think of this? New fresh idea... or too far from the core concept of the class?
I’ve had similar thoughts, although with a high elf, for the bonus cantrip. Thorn Whip, Pot of Awakening, Homunculus servant, etc. Somewhat of an Eldar 40k feel.
Have you ever looked up/playerd the 'Botania' mod for Minecraft? It's an entire big magitech engine which centers around unlocking the potential of magical flowers and natural magic energies. Feels like exactly what you're looking for, might provide some inspiration.

I've never played minecraft, but I will check it out on youtube, thanks. :)

Also an interesting take. :) My concept is more cute / gnome strange. Pot of Awakening is a great infusion for this.
That's a wonderful concept, although I wouldn't want to tread on the toes of any druids in the party! I feel like it could also work with the other subclasses (Alchemist is an obvious one, but having a biologically engineered plant companion for the Battle Smith and something like symbiosis or Yuna's Floral Fallal for the Armourer would also go well)
