Fine to ask for ideas, but please do some of the work yourself. Why 1/2 elf?, why sailor?, level range? party composition? shield/weapon, 2-weapon, ranged, 2-handed combat style? All of those things give people something to suggest based on. Just "I need suggestions" is a bit brief.

Exactly what was stated here.
Reminds me of being at work, and I ask my clients, what have you tried, and they say absolutely nothing. We thought you would fix it for me. If you are “new player” I could understand, but there’s lots of free stuff on the interwebs. Also previous posts on both ranger/barb forums. Come back with more than what you have posted.
Wood half elf because the increased movement works well with barbarians. The thought of a barbarian sailor would be awesome. Barbarian/ranger always intrigued me and I feel might a fit a nautical setting. Still working on the party, but will be starting at level 5. Was planning on two handed and/or two weapon (usually when I do, I get told it won't work)
Barbarian/Ranger is not a great combo. Ranger's power is primarily based on concentration spells, and barbarian cannot concentrate on a spell while raging. That does not mean thematically it doesn't work and there aren't some pieces that fit together. A couple of pieces that work: Fighting style works great. If you are an armored barbarian then Defense is always a welcome addition. With dual wielding that style works well. Thrown weapon can be fun until you have weapons you aren't throwing. Extra skill and languages. Also good here. Hunter's Mark is a useful spell when not raging and will make you more sustainable throughout the day.
Subclasses: Beastmaster: Pet class doesn't require concentration. Not bad, but you do have to sacrifice your bonus action to get it to do things. Eventually the lack of HP will be a problem and it won't help much in a fight. Fey Wanderer: 1d4 on an attack is good, Wisdom bonus to charisma skills is pretty weak. Not the best choice. Gloom Stalker: If you don't have darkvision or know you can take advantage of the hiding in the dark features it might be OK. Dreadful strikes is not great unless you invest in wisdom significantly. Hunter: Hunter's Prey combines well with a barbarian.
