My lv4 Half-Orc, bear totem barbarian is the de facto tank for my group. We have no healer, and the other 3 members are casters with low AC and HP totals.
My job:
Aggro the enemies and keep them from getting to my casters, and survive long enough to let the casters do their cool stuff.
Character stats:
15 Str, 14 Dex, 18 Con, 7 Int, 8 Wis, 16 Cha, 58 HP, using a shield and unarmored defence for 18 AC.
I took the half orc racial trait to help me out of a tough spot when I need to use my relentless endurance (which has happened thrice already)
Question: how should I continue building my character? My priorities are (in order):
1. Battlefield control
2. Survivability
3. Damage dealing
Are there any feats I should be looking at or are straight ASI boosts better for me? My DM is generally open to content from pretty much any source books, with approval. I dont want to take anyone else's fun, so no "broken" feats, please.
For battlefield control I would advise taking the Sentinel Feature: this is ideal for locking down a high priority target. Shield Master is also great to get and use out of the Bonus Action and knocking an opponent prone limits their mobility severely.
On survivability I would think that being Beam Totem is already one of the most survivable options. Maybe be more considerate about when to use reckless attack. Because if you give too many opponents advantage on their attack rolls, AC 18 isn't going to hold up and they will start to chip away HP faster than you would like. Without a healer, there is almost no safety net, so maybe after level 5 you might consider multi-classing into Fighter to pick up Second Wind for some HP recovery and Action Surge, to help out in clutch situations. You also get to pick a fighting style to boost survivability or damage.
Damage Dealing, well you simply can't get all at once, yet here is another Feature that can help out massively: Great Weapon Master but this is not completely compatible with wielding a shield of course, since the power attack portion of this feature only works with heavy weapons. Otherwise boosting you strength will help here a little or have one of the casters cast Haste on you for an extra attack and extra mobility.
