I had never even thought about daily behavior of wild shape animals. Fascinating!
😉 feel free to incorporate it.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t watch Steve Irwin or Bear Grylls Or other such stuff to prepare for being a ranger. I even have a copy of edible plants book I bring with me when I play rangers. Sometimes it’s fun little caveat. Sometimes, it never comes up. But for all the things we try to RAW and RAI.
i don’t think it’s intended that being summoned always wakes you up ready to fight. I used to call my Snorlax all the time and he’d still be asleep. So why not nocturnal creatures.
this is also why it’s “assumed” (unwritten) that most wolves you see in a city during the day are druids. Or an escaped zoo/rich person pet.
i think druids treat nature like a lot of cultures around the world. killing things is necessary, but only take what you need. it'd be extremely difficult to survive independently in the wild as an omnivorous creature, without eating meat or using leather.

Hi! My pronouns are they/them. I've recently started DMing, so I'm not very experienced (yet).
Wouldn't it be against every fiber in their being to take up Woodworking as their Skill?
I got a crazy idea that my Druid makes his own Caltrops, Spikes and Arrows. But after learning more about the "Nature" aspect of the Druid, it makes me think that he's totally Vegan and shouldn't do woodworking because the trees are living things and not dead.
Am I overthinking this? Wouldn't there also be a conflict between a Druid and Leatherworking?
I have a lot to learn, obviously.
Druids use wooden wands, wooden shields, etc so no reason they could not work wood. Seems like a natural extension of a nature-oriented class. Same thing with leatherworking; being a druid doesn't mean you are vegan. They wouldn't kill animals just for their hide but if it was for food or in defense, sure. Also, if a druid with the leatherworking skill is near a dead dragon, he will skin it to have scale armor made....since its one of the few good options he has. You decide on what works for your character when you write your background.

If you're talking about wild companion, it's not the actual animal, but a fey creature in that form (similar to find familiar). And summons aren't around long enough for a sleep cycle.
