I have a Rock Gnome Way of the Drunken Master Monk. I just noticed when I hit level 5, my attack went from d4 to a d8 and I can't for the life of me figure out why! It's both my dagger attack and my unarmed strike that did this... 

The 2024 PHB update has a bug where the new monk's improved martial arts dice have bled over to old monks.

What ^ said.   If you're playing the 2024 monk,  your damage is correct.   If you're playing the 2014 monk,  it should be 1d6

Is this going to be fixed? Not that I mind doing more damage, but it is essentially forced cheating.

 Eventually. I guess there are a number of bugs they are working on since the early access to the 2024 PHB update went live.
