Well. I now have a +2 Quarterstaff. (We're level 9). But. I also have the Grappler feat, which only activate with an Unarmed Strike + an Attack action (so can't activate as part as the Bonus Action extra unarmed attack). And yeah. It's great, but now my unarmed feel underpowered because they don't get +2 on hit/dmg.
Yes, if the monk uses a weapon, he/she has the same problem as the dual-wielding warrior: both weapons need to be magical. One of the many reasons why I prefer pure unarmed combat. At least I only have to enhance unarmed combat with a tattoo or bandages.
You may want to look into crafting or searching for the magic item Wraps of Unarmed Power. These are essentially the unarmed version of +1/+2/+3 weapons.

I guess that's just the way of Monks, right?
Is the staff the only magical item you have at 9th level? No ring or cloak of protection for their +2 AC and saves? What's your Dex? You already do a d8 with your attacks anyway, you won't miss +2. Perhaps you should have requested a Wrap of Unarmed Power, then you wouldn't need the staff. 🤷🏿♂️
Honestly, yes. I'm currently playing a Warrior of the Elements Monk starting at level 3, now at Level 8. Tavern Brawler was one of my Origin Feats, Grappler was my General Feat. Part of my character concept was that i carried a quarterstaff, reskinned as an Oar, constantly.
I have never used the Oar/Quarterstaff in a single combat for the entire campaign so far, not even once, even though it did more damage than my Unarmed Strikes up until level 5.
Unless the +2 Quarterstaff has other useful properties (Such as being a Quarterstaff of the Acrobat ) I'd probably have put it in the hands of another party member, and would probably only wind up using its melee capabilities on creatures that I have already Grappled, creatures I am unable to Grapple, or for Opportunity Attacks in the situation as described.

It's just a +2 Quarterstaff. +2 to Hit is pretty big on a d20. And +2 to DMG. Not the only magical item. I have a +1 AC robe and Boots of Elvenkind. I didn't ask for anything. We just found the staff as random loot.

Figured as much. Yeah. RAW you only need one free hand for Grapple and Unarmed Strikes so RAW I can hold the staff in the other hand. So, 1st attack Unarmed + Grapple, then 2nd with the staff (Still +2 to hit/dmg with adv), then Flurry. I guess, it's not much but I'm still going to use it. And for Larger creatures that I can't grapples, then I guess the staff will have its uses.

That's a shame Only three magical items at level 9. You should Speak to your DM about that or at least switch up for the hand wraps
