I just heard a little something that the attack modifier for the beast’s attack will be the ranger’s spell attack modifier. That will “change” things quite a bit in terms of game balance if you are including hit chance into the damage output.
If this turns out to be the case then I am even more excited for this book to come out.
I can take Druidic Warrior fighting style and go Beast Master and never worry about my Dex score past level 1. Become a different kind of Gish with shillelagh and Magic Stone.

Shillelagh doesn't work with extra attack though
What?
Yes it does. It just changes the damage die and stat used for whatever club or quarterstaff you use it on.

wait a minute, the ranger's companion feature already lets you add your proficiency bonus to the beasts attack rolls on top of their existing modifier, but now the beasts unmodified attack rolls will also incorperate your proficiency bonus? unless they change the feature slightly or the attack is classified differently you would add your proficiency bonus to the beast's attack roll twice and have a stupidly accurate companion

I think the base ability is now a changeable variant. Who knows.
It’s official. Tasha’s only replaces the level 3 ability for the beast master. That means the level 7, 11, and 15 subclass abilities are unchanged. that means the beast and ranger combined are making 4 attacks at level 11! Average of 44 damage a turn.
Rapier Ranger = +9 to hit and (d8 + 2 +5)*2 damage
Beast of Land = +7 to hit and (d8 + 2 + 4)*2
The beast of the land also has a 20’ extra d6 damage and knock down effect. Plus AoO.
Know I wonder if they will put in a little errata to the PHB moving the bonus action command to level 3, allowing full attack actions, allowing any other action, and making the change to the beast’s saving throws and skill checks.
Yeah! Hunter is also underrated. I’m a big fan of the whole class and subclasses of PHB ranger. The hunter is king of martial AoE. Period. The beast master kind of played the single target focus for the PHB rangers.
At level 11, the beast master ranger from Tasha’s will be doing 40 a average damage.
The ranger with a long bow will be rolling an average of 19 ((1d8 + 5)x2) damage and the beast of the land will be rolling an average of 21 ((1d8 + 2 + 4)x2) damage.
With all things balance, I refer back to Paladins. Let's see what a Paladin can do at level 11.
2 Attacks. Let's give him a Longsword & shield, just cus I love d8s. Hell let's set his str/dex to 18, because I like a challenge. Hell let's make him mono-class paladin just for simplicity.
1st round
2*8+4(2xLongsword)+10d8(2x3rd level Divine Smite+Improved Divine Smite) = 62 Average Damage.

2d8+4(2xLongsword)+8d8(2x2nd Level Divine Smite+Improved Divine Smite) = 50 Average Damage
Total Average Damage: 167.5
Now this is using class resources (spell slots), but this is also without optimization, or any subclassfeatures that would increase this further.
In comparison to something that's been in the game since the PHB, the new Beastmaster is simply 'alright.'
I love your user name! “The score is ogey to bogey.”
The Tasha’s BM using only three level 3 slots with hail of thorns can do three rounds of 54.25 damage each round.
Your paladin is doing 26 damage a round using zero resources compared to the Tasha’s BM doing 38 damage a round using zero resource and a +4 ability modifier. That’s a lot for any class. A fighter with a great sword using zero resources is doing 36.

Correct.
Oh yes I'm wrong. Derp. I was thinking it was like Booming blade for a second.

4 attacks is nice, but a Hunter with a group of tightly packed enemies could make as many as 16 in one turn.
