So i'm looking at playing a gloomstalker and i have about a week to tweak my stats in case i need to multiclass later. I was thinking hitting 5 and riding the next 15 levels in arcane trickster. That was i'll get to play up the damage of the gloomstalker using the sneak attack dice, i get some good ritual spells and utility, and i dont necessarily need a high wisdom or int if im using buffs or utility.
What kind of builds have you used? I'm looking for high damage and utility, but anything fun is a good suggestion.
I am multi into Arcana Cleric. You get attack cantrips from wizard and the cleric ones. I am sword and boarding it so it means I don't have to have a bow.
The other cleric I would absolutely recommend for similar reasons if you are allowed is the death cleric from the DMG. There your chill touch can hit two targets. As can Spare the Dying.
I play a Gloomstalker 5 / Battlemaster 4 / Assassin 11 (lv 20 build), currently GS5/BM2/AS7. Take a deep look at that, and you could exchange assassin for arcane trickster if you want. What you miss then is the very potent mix of assassinate+actionsurge+Dread ambusher for a total of 6 auto-crit attacks on surprise. With standard stats I did Str 8, Dex 15, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 13, Cha 14, then adding woodelf.
High damage and utility multiclass ranger ideas, you say? Look at war cleric.
One level gets you the war priest ability and the healing word spell.
Two levels gets you guided strike.
Three levels gets you the spiritual weapon spell.
Huh, seems legit, the only issue i can see is roleplay reasons to multiclass into it. Additionally, Spiritual weapon is good but i can get more damage from bonus action hunters mark because at level 5 that'll be 3 D6 turn one and an additional 2d6 after that, where spiritual weapon is a bonus d8 a round. Although, combining the two would mean if the fight went on long enough i could get 1d8+1d8+1d6 gsr attack then 1d8+1d6 attack 1 1d8+1d6 attack 2 and then next round 1d8+1d8+1d6 attack 1 plus spirit weapon and 1d8+1d8+1d6 same thing attack 2.

First, I LOVE that you are using role play reasons for multiclassing. Love it.
Second, the war priest is the big thing for me. For a subclass like the gloom stalker that is so reliant on a setup to execute its main ability, doubling down on that with a full on extra attack might be nice to have. The healing word and spiritual weapon spells are just options in the toolkit.

I like to have an in character reason for multiclassing even if it ends up being a stretch. Although character-wise his background would allow for worship of Sheverash, at least a dip.

IMHO the best ranger is Gloomstalker 5/Rogue (Scout) X.
I am running this right now in AL. Right now I am at 5 gloomstalker/2 rogue, and I have enjoyed the trip so far. This is a classic combo.
Scout is another one i'm looking at multiclassing into and it seems pretty awesome.
