Since my previous post was based originally on an analysis on adding an expanded spell list to draconic and shadow sorcerers, I decided to create a new post about an additional feature that could be given to the draconic sorcerer instead of an expanded spell list. My play test group tired a few things and we tentatively like this one. We will test it more next week. As always I am looking for thoughts, feedback, critiques and the like. The wording isn't perfect yet but this is what we were thinking:
Aspect of the Dragon
At 6th level, the blood of your ancestor begins to affect your body in different ways. When you finish a long rest you may chose one of the following abilities that lasts until your take another long rest.
Eyes
You gain darkvison out of 60 feet. If you already have darkvison it’s increased by 30 feet.
Claws
You gain retractable claws that deal 1d6 + your Charisma modifier damage associated with your draconic ancestry. When you attack with these claws, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack roll.
Presence
charm person, cause fear and disguise self are added to your spell list. You may cast each of these spells once without expending a spell slot. Once you cast a spell in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
Elemental
Spells you cast that deal damage associated with your draconic ancestry ignore resistance.
Another option we are going to test is allows the sorcerer basically an additional spell slot per spell level. It will read something like: you may cast an additional spell you know from each spell level you have access to up-to 5th level spells once per long rest.

I like the aspect of the dragon idea, I think that could work really well, but these extra spell slots would be too powerful for a sub-class feature IMO; I'm also not clear what the connection is to the draconic bloodline? Sorcerers already have the full set of full-caster spell slots, plus Font of Magic and Metamagics for recovery and/or getting more out of them.

What we tested this week and will fully more flesh out next is fixing some of the issues with aspect of the dragon. The second option we discussed we decided to abandon. It was inspired by older sorcerers having more slots per day, and we might save that for the "weave-touched" subclass we are going to test in a few weeks since it would fit the alot more.
We upped the damage of the claws to 2d8+cha mod damage of your elemental type and it will scale at up like cantrips.
We are also going to test requiring you to hard-select one of them abilities and not allow them to be swapped at a long rest. if we do that we would allow another one of the "aspects to be selected at a higher level.
Yeah, we decided to pin our attempts to improve the 5e sorcerer and concentrate our efforts on testing the new classes material. I'll make a new post later this week detailing our initial results and another in a few after we've vetting things more and let everyone know what we think.
I’m playing a 6th-level high elf sorcerer with a draconic heritage. I think the addition of 30 feet for darkvision is a great modification. By 6th level, I think it becomes increasingly unlikely that a sorcerer will engage in melee combat, so the claws might be more useful at a lower level, maybe 2nd or 3d. Have you found the three spells listed under presence provide to great an advantage to the player to put the game out of balance? Same questions regarding using elemental spells associated with the draconic ancestry.

The new UA has the sorceror and the subclass is the draconic so you might want to take a look at their ideas.
